Sample Reivew: The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection BB Cream SPF 37, PA++ 02 Natural Beige
First of all, Merry Christmas everyone! Can you believe that 2014 is coming at us so quickly? I'm very excited for next year (because it will bring me my next makeup/ skincare haul hehe). Today I'll be reviewing a makeup staple; BB cream.
I love BB cream! I have worn it almost everyday since the end of 2008 when my cousin introduced me to it. I have ventured into the CC cream realm but my heart will always remain loyal to my BBs (I may also jump into the cushion foundation train in the near future). I feel very frustrated whenever I hear girls in Priceline dismiss BB cream as being inferior to foundation. NO.
Needless to say I was pretty happy when I got a few sample packets of The Face Shop's Power Perfection BB cream.

Benton & Mizon Snail haul~ (more Korean skincare -_-;;)
At the end of October (25/10), I finally caved in and did another skincare haul. My skin has been progressively getting worse and worse towards the second half of 2013. It may have been due been due to switching out and trying too many skincare/ makeup products in a short amount of time. Having more money means wanting to spend more money!
I know that these items were not the cause as I had used them in the first half of 2013 and my skin was perfectly fine:
- Etude House Happy Vitamin C Foam Cleanser
- Etude House Wonder Pore Freshener
- Skinfood serum
- Skinfood Black Sugar/ Rice Wash-Off
- My Beauty Diary masks

Sasa haul and review~ (more Korean and Japanese goodies ofc)!
I love, love, love visiting Sasa whenever I go to Hong Kong (I think I've got the two Mong Kok and the Tsuen Wan store layouts memorised by now). With all the raving reviews of Sasa floating around the interwebs, I decided to give their online shop a go. My experience with Sasa has always been positive and continue to be so as their prices are reasonable.
I was lucky and was able to take advantage of Sasa's free shipping to Australia. All you had to do is spend over $29USD-- easy peasy with the dropping AUD conversion rate.

Byakuren //A Thousand Years of Loneliness//
My first and only drawing of 2013.
I used to be so ranking and point hungry on pixiv and other sites... I had to see myself on the rankings tables (my gosh, Jin and I used to talk about getting enough points to be on DR. I think he did manage to get in the top 100 and I stopped drawing haha). It feels better to draw because I feel like it.
I need to focus on studying hard and filling in my applications~! Wish me luck <3
Dior Voyage The Make-Up Palette (So Dior Travel Collection)
So I got given this huge Dior makeup palette recently:
The palette contains:
- four eyeshadows
- pressed powder
- mascara
- blush/ finishing powder
- two lipsticks
It also contains:
- double-ended eyeshadow applicator
- sponge
- lipbrush
- blush brush
The only things I think I could use are the eyeshadows and the mascara. I don't use finishing powder and the blush doesn't show on my skin. The lipsticks don't match my skin tone (and I don't wear lipstick anyway).
Unfortunately, even then, the eyeshadows swatch out the same as my Dolly Wink brown palette:
And the purple and the cream colour is pretty much the same as my "Dior me, Dior me not" Lip and Eye Colour Palette (though I do think the travel palette's purple is prettier... but it's too light to suit my darker skin).
So all in all, I'm fairly disappointed I can't make much use of this palette. I already have sets/ palettes which do a better job (such as Benefit/ Estee Lauder). I'm not a huge fan of Dior beauty products in general. Sorry.I guess I do like the Dior Kiss lipgloss, but even then there's still points I don't dig. Don't even get me started on their perfume.
I think I will love Dior a lot more in ten years time. The brand is a bit too sophisticated and mature for me right now. So yeah, just my thoughts and not really a review.

Burt's Bees "Tips and Toes"
So I purchased this Burt's Bees kit for my good friend as a birthday gift~ it's one of those brands I've always wanted to try but did not ever purchase because it's too expensive for myself ;___;
I actually wanted to get her some hand cream from The Body Shop, but I couldn't find a scent that I thought she would enjoy. I was then going to get her the Orange and Ginger hand cream I found in another store... but I went back the week after to purchase and the shop no longer stocked that entire line of creams lol.
She said she really liked this gift set yay! My money was well spent ☆

Skinfood Fruit Juice C (Whitening) Serum Review
Skinfood Fruit Juice C Serum (for Whitening Care)
Let's find out if this baby works!
What they say: 'This skin-brightening essence contains fruit complex extracts with vitamin C and nano-processed vitamin C derivatives to revitalise skin. It also contains arbutin to keep skin looking radiant and vibrant.' (from the English Skinfood website)
Contents: 50ml; the serum is packaged in a half frosted bottle with a pipette dropper
Application: Use after your toner. Squeeze a few drops onto your palms and pat into your face for absorption. Follow it up with your moisturiser.
My Thoughts
Vitamin C is notorious for brightening so I picked this up in a heartbeat. IT SMELLS SO LOVELY; a fresh, citrus smell. Unfortunately, it didn't really work out for me. My face was not visibly brighter even though I used up the bottle very thoroughly everyday and night for around three months straight:( I'm not sure if it was because I only used a drop rather than three drops as others have suggested to cover my face.
The serum is light and non-sticky. It absorbed quite quickly and felt light on my face. I think it did a good job moisturising even though it was not slanted to do such a thing. Ironically, I think my face has actually gotten a shade darker even though I no longer see sunlight during my weekdays and have stopped wearing sunscreen with my 6am- 6pm schedule (so naughty).
Pros:
- smells good
- light weight, non-sticky formula
- cheap (I purchased it $13)
Cons:
- didn't whiten or brighten my skin
- no visible lightening of pimple scars
- quickly used up
Overall:
I have heard Skinfood is very hit-or-miss with their skincare products. This serum is a miss for me. I'm not pulled in by their makeup range but I do adore their wash-off packs (yes, the famous Rice and Black Sugar one I hauled together with this serum). I have heard good things about the more expensive Omija Whitening range from Skinfood though!
☆/ 5
TL;DR: It smells good and feels nice on the skin, but it did not do what it claimed for my skin. I would personally give this a miss.
Have you tried any whitening or brightening products? What would you recommend?

Sample Review: The Face Shop Arsainte Eco-Therapy Crystal Water Super Gel
Arsainte Eco-Therapy Crystal Water Super Gel
A super duper refreshing and cooling gel cream from The Face Shop. It contains some star ingredients for the face such as arctic crystal water, hyaluronic acid, and xylitol.
Another sample I picked up from my adventures at The Face Shop.
What they say: 'Containing 1,000mg of iceberg water from Newfoundland, Canada and 1,000mg of phyto- hyaluronic acid'.
It is suitable for all skin types and it is especially recommended for hydrating dry skin. This product is from the Refreshing Cooling Line. Apparently it also has some astringent properties.
Application: Use after your toner. You can place it in the fridge to maximise this gel's cooling properties.
Contents: 1.2ml/ 0.04 fl. oz oz per sample packet (I used around 10 packets all up)

Sample review: The Face Shop Aloe Fresh Gel Cream
So I thought I'd finally get around to doing some reviews on the samples I've picked up this year! My blog is focusing much less on art/ drawings and cosplays than what I intended. *shrug* I'm going with the flow...
The first sample (and one of my favourites) I'll be reviewing is The Face Shop's Aloe Fresh Oil-Free Gel Cream.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a description of the product on the official The Face Shop website so you'll just have to run with my opinion and the teeny amount that was written on the packet. I guess it's for the Aloe Fresh line? Maybe suitable for sensitive skin (I dunno, just taking a stab in the dark guys...)?
What they say: "Soothing and moisturising."
Contents: 1ml/ 0.03 fl. oz per sample packet (I used around 12 packets all up)

Benefit: Do the Bright Thing (That Gal, Dandelion, High Beam, They're Real) review
Around a month ago, one of my friends gifted me Benefit's 'Do the Bright Thing' kit. I was so excited because I have recently been 'researching' reviews of High Beam and I was considering buying 'Finding Mr Bright' to get the sample size version.
Benefit is one of those brands I associate with being young, fun, quirky, and creative. The only other Benefit product I have owned was 'You Rebel', a tinted moisturiser.
Thank you Helen for being a mind-reader and letting me try out High Beam and discovering new products:)

Tony Moly Kiss Lover Live Tint #2 Orange review
I went to the China Town Tony Moly inside Morning Glory and got this at a sample for sale at $3. I know some people may think that's gross but I got it because it was pretty much full. Some reasons why this may have been because:
1.) I don't think this line of tints is very popular
2.) Most people go for the pink or even red rather than the oranges
After looking through all the samples (BB creams, eyeliners, sleeping packs, powders etc.), I judged this to be in the best condition. It looked hardly used and it worked well with my skin tone when I tried it so I purchased it!
Welcome to my family of tints |
... the colours are too vibrant in this but it's Kiss Lover Live Tint #3 Red, Kiss Lover Live Tint #2 Orange, and Cat Chu Wink (Tony Tint) #1 Cherry Pink |
Swatches: #3 Red, #2 Orange, #1 Cherry Pink |
I like this line of tints because it's more gel-like than the watery tints which dry really quickly. You get some time to work with this formula. Even after dabbing it in the inner parts of your lips, you still have time to wipe the colour from your fingers to a piece of tissue so it doesn't stain your fingers.
I think this colour is really pretty! I like it a lot~ I used to use orange lip glosses and I think I will start up again soon. The scent isn't anything too spectacular; it doesn't really smell much of oranges. Just an artificial sweet scent and a tad bitter if you lick it.
Cost: $3.00 (original price $13.99)

Tony Moly Cat Chu Wink #1 Cherry Pink review
So... I went to the Tony Moly at Market City a few weeks ago and saw they finally sold Tony Tint (or Cat Chu Wink) in #1 Cherry Pink. ARRRGHHHHH. But they also sold the tiny samples for $3 so I purchased it. The full size is around $12.
Seriously, the tiny sample is worth $6??
All-in-all, I do like this tint. I love the colour more than the Tony Moly Kiss Lover Live Tint on my lips but I wouldn't necessarily reach for it more.

Cons:
- have to work with the colour quickly
- pushing the wand in the bottle squeezes out the excess tint to go on the side of the cap:(

- emphases flaky lips

Finally, an art-related WIP
I've started colouring this WIP again from ages and ages ago. I haven't drawn anything at all this year. I think it's because I stopped for most of last year and now I can't find the motivation to pick it up again. My entire 2013 folder is MT. TRULY EMPTY. Hopefully I can put this in it (but in reality, it belongs in the 2010 folder).
Life is going at me too fast these days... but yeah, I went to TonyMoly last week and yesterday and picked up more items. That post will be coming very soon in the near future.
Arrghhh we must reach 2.5million views for Exo's 'Wolf' this weekend! *shakes fist at SME*

Rimmel London phone booth and bb cream review
A few months ago, Rimmel was having this guessing competition where they put a location clue of where they were going to be in mX everyday for a week. The first five people to give the Rimmel girl the secret code word would win a year's worth of supply.
I found the phone booth because it was located where I work (lol). The competition ran from 7.30am until 11am. When I got there at 8am, the spokesperson said she's already given out the prize. Apparently, some girls started lining up at 4am in the morning...
The Rimmel red phone booth! And the freebies in Kleenex boxes haha |
Look at that tiny phone booth across the road. |
The spokesperson initially only handed me one tiny tube of BB cream. When I asked her about the code word, she told me that the prizes have already been claimed and gave me a pencil tin. I exited the building to go to the post office at round 10am and she gave me another two tubes of BB cream samples. She looked really bored and unhappy because it was pretty quiet during that time.
Rimmel tin and BB Cream |
Swatching it on my hand |
In my honest opinion... I disliked this BB Cream. I don't think it even has a right to call itself a 'BB Cream'. Sorry Rimmel. I liked your lip products (the Sweet Jelly Lipgloss was done sooooo right), but I would give this a miss.
The texture is too thin and watery. It does not have any coverage at all. I think Garnier and even Maybelline did a better job at re-creating a BB Cream (though compared some of the other Korean ones I've used, they sort of rank... down there).
Rating: .5/5
The .5 is for having different shades. That's it.
TL;DR: Give this a miss. Skip over it and go "NOPE I DID NOT SEE YOU THAR." Perhaps it's just my expectation of what a BB Cream should be like. I would probably be more forgiving if it was labelled a tinted moisturiser.

Namie-kun's 2012 phantasmagoria Touhou Project Fanbook vol. 2 review
Ehehe, I'm late to the boat. I think I received this in February. Unfortunately, since I did not check my dA as often as I used to, I missed out on my postal batch. No matter, it just came a few days later from Namie in WA.
The book contains full page illustrations as well as WIPs (as shown above), guest art, competition winners, and her trademark humour throughout. I loved the last few pages that introduced the illustrators and contributors. Full of lulz.
She did a doodle on my envelope! T^T |
I was so happy when I received this. I pre-ordered it in November and received it in February. The book had a limited 250 print run (from what I remember, and if you can call it that). The book was $27 + $6 for registered shipping within Australia.
I met Namie last year when she came to Smash. I cosplayed at Blue Reimu whilst she also cosplayed Reimu~ I was was pleasantly surprised she remembered me:D
It's Namie! Look at the height difference:/ |
Pre-order goodies. I was order #62. The year before I was #4 haha. |
She gave me a Reisen doodle:DD |
Inside of the book |
Cover of the book |
Back of the book |
To be honest, I wasn't as impressed by the quality of the guest art this time around. Sure, I liked the artists that were featured, but they just didn't seem as /epic/ as the last book and it wasn't up to the standard as the rest of Namie's book. As much as I enjoyed the idea of the contest in the book, I'd rather see more illustrations from Namie herself (I'm being selfish now aren't I?).
After I got this book, I pulled out her first one and compared the styles. Namie has developed a lot in the last year. When I first watched her in early 2007/ 2008 I thought she had a very unique style and I'm glad to see she has put a lot of time and effort into developing something that is uniquely hers. Unlike a lot of "well-known" dA/ pixiv artists, I can't really see who she's channelling a lot of the time (e.g., Minami --> Pixel Phantom, PeaCh --> Noizi Ito, KD --> Ryohka). Shinkai Makoto in her backgrounds?
Her imagination is really inspiring and it makes me want to pick up my tablet and draw every time I see her rainbow illustrations.
5/5 A +++ to you Namie:)
TL;DR: All in all, another beautiful book from Namie. I remember she said her computer crashed and deleted a few pictures so she had to re-draw them. It was well worth the price. I hope she keeps her passion for drawing for a long time, and continues to strive for improvement.

The Face Shop eyelash adhesive review
I wear fake eyelashes... a lot. Top and bottom at the same time. So it was imperative I found a good glue that doesn't run out on me that quickly. On average, my manicare glue lasts me for a month during cosplay/ Christmas/ New Year's/ going out periods. Not good.
So I've been using this glue for a while now. It's great! I used to only buy the manicare 1ml glue at Priceline (I think it's about $4 for 1ml). The Face Shop glue was about $6~$7AUD for 7g worth of glue (I heard this retails overseas for $3~$4?).
This glue comes out in a blue-ish tint that dries clear.
Pros:
- strong hold
- dries quickly
- good value
- little product goes to waste when you apply the lid back on the tube
Cons:
- can get messy due to its squeeze design packaging
- can pull out your eyelashes due to strong grip
- difficult to remove glue from the false lash
Rating: 4/5
TL;DR: pretty good glue. You should try it:D

Etude House Tear Drop Liner #1 White Tear review
I've seen this product making rounds on the interwebz from Korean girl group members and beauty gurus sporting the look. Here is my take on Etude House's Tear Drop Eye Liner in #1 White Tear.
What I like about it:
- the irredescent glitters are blindingly beautiful, especially in sunlight
- fine brush tip and a long handle for easy application. One dip in the tube should do the trick for both eyes.
- the formula is glitter dense (i.e., more glitters than clear liner)
- this glitter liner is uber cheap (6000 won is pretty cheap. I think a product like this would go for at least $15~$20 AUD)
What I dislike about it:
- there was no security seal around the tube. For all I know, it could have been opened and used before... but the neck of the tube was clean, so it is probably new.
- the product isn't evenly disbursed in the container. That's not really a problem, but it doesn't look nice in its brand new packaging (you can see what I mean in the above photo ^).
- it turns flaky after a few hours and you will probably get loose glitter over your face. GLITTER MULTIPLES I TELL YOU.
What it looks like on me (LQ webcam photo -___-;;):
I'm wearing it on the inner corners of my eyes. It's very pretty when the liner catches light because it makes your eyes all *bling-bling* *kira-kira*. It also looks fantastic with aegyo sal style brown shadow under the eyes.
Verdict: I would definitely repurchase this! It's more of a "special occasion" makeup product but I've been wearing it everyday because it makes me feel pretty^^b

EXO-K Sunny 10 blast drink (Kai's pineapple) and Qoo White Grape
So finally this CF came out recently after like a year in the making...
I actually found the exact Sunny 10 pineapple drink that Chanyeol is holding in this CF. I got it from a supermarket in World Square for a dollar at the beginning of February. Yes, a dollar! They only had Kai and Chanyeol's version and since Kai is one of my bbs, I got his version of the drink.
Sunny 10 Pineapple (Kai's pick:) |
The English side of the drink. |
Uh, I haven't drank it yet. I was just going to keep it on my desk and eventually on my self for decoration because I don't really like pineapple flavoured items=__=
I would like to find Baek's version because I like Baekhyun.
-----
A few weeks later, I went back to World Square supermarket and purchased this drink along with Korean rice cakes (tteokbokki) and sweet chilli fried chicken to have for dinner with my mum.
I purchased Qoo (クー) White Grape Juice. Both this drink and the Sunny 10 drink is produced by the Coca Cola Company. I like Minute Maid so I purchased this one to drink to drown the spiciness of the rice cakes.
On the way back to the station, people were handing out free cans of Coke Zero:)
Taste: 3.5/5
It was a light grape flavoured juice. It was tasty, but not mind blowing.
Price: 2/5
From memory it was around $1.80. A pretty good price.
Sorry, I took the photos from my phone then threw the can away...

Goodbye 3DS :(
I think my 3DS died. The A buttons is no longer responsive... my dad says I've had it for too long (just over a year) and that technology dies easily. I'm so sad because I really love my DS and I haven't even finished Pokemon White yet! And Pokemon X and Y still haven't come out:(
Guess I'll call Nintendo tomorrow and see if they can do anything about it even though it's just out of warranty. I'll also drop by EB Games and see if anyone can help me.

My (Korean and Taiwanese) beauty/ mo lieu haul for 2013
So... Cathy is a bad influence on meXD She told me about some of the products she tried from Korea/ Hong Kong that were nice so I ended up buying a lot of stuff she recommended to me. It was cheap from Bonjour HK:(
My dad got me a whole lot of stuff from his China and Hong Kong business trip. Let's take a look~
My dad purchased me practical items. Just like a dad.
He got me some socks for work, a drink bottle, two Rollei UV filters (37mm & 58mm), a 16GB micro SD card for my camera, and a screen protector.
Everything else is stuff I ordered online. The prices were really cheap so I purchased enough to last me for the next six months. Simply because I can:D
This is what I ordered online:
1.) My Beauty Diary 2013 New Year pack; Birds Nest/ Collagen/ Natto/ Aloe masks in a pack of 26 (135 HKD)
2.) My Beauty Diary Black Pearl (54HKD)
3.) My Beauty Diary Strawberry Yoghurt (58HKD)
4.) Daria hair velcro (26HKD)
All in all, this only cost 78AUD. A box of 10 My Beauty Diary sheet masks is $20 in and around the city. The cheapest I've seen it go for is $17, and I was considering buying a box.
I have to say, I like the facial foam the best. It works especially well with the cleansing net I bought from Daiso. I've used the serum quite a bit. I was hoping to get rid off this dark spot on my cheek. However, I did not have high hopes for this product as I have read disappointing reviews but I still wanted to try this whitening serum.
So far, I've seen my face brighten a bit after a week of use with using the rice mask, black sugar mask, and the sheet masks. Missha and The Face Shop masks tingle and make my face itchy though I really enjoyed the Green Tea and the Pomegranate masks.
The My Beauty Diary ones fit well and are comfortable-- unfortunately, I had already placed my order when I purchased a packet of the Earl Grey Tea and Macaroon mask. Otherwise, I may have picked up a box of that one because it smells soooooo good. The Bird's Nest one is also very good^^ The Natto, Black Pearl, and Japanese Cherry Blossom ones are meh to me because they smell the same... but nonetheless, they are all great!
I'm going to focus on pampering myself this year, and work towards my goal for next year! Here's to a late 2013 resolution!
My dad got me a whole lot of stuff from his China and Hong Kong business trip. Let's take a look~
Presents from my dad piled in front of my room |
He got me some socks for work, a drink bottle, two Rollei UV filters (37mm & 58mm), a 16GB micro SD card for my camera, and a screen protector.

6.) Skin Food Rice Mask Wash off (68HKD; ... so I ended up buying two of these because I heard this was also a best seller)

8.) Etude House Happy Essential Foam Vitamin C (49HKD; I had initially wanted the Happy Tea Time Cleansing Foam in Green Tea, but that was also discontinued)

TonyMoly Kiss Lover Live Tint review
A month and a half ago, I noticed TonyMoly cosmetics were sold at the Morning Glory in China Town (very late at noticing, I know =__=). A week later, I walked past the new TonyMoly store in Market City and freaked out. They had 40% off everything which is freaking awesome!
I really wanted to buy one of their famous Tony Tints so I was really happy to see that they were on sale for only $6.99. I had my heart set on buying it in #1 Cherry Pink or #2 Red Apple. Unfortunately, the store only sold the new re-packaged Cat Wink's tint in #3 Orange Cha Cha. I asked the sales assistant if they carried the reds and she tried to get me to buy the orange. I tried to love it when I tested it-- I really did. As much as I think orange is a flattering colour on my skin tone, that particular tint didn't do it for me.
So she directed me to the tinted balms, the Water Jelly Tints and the Kiss Lover Live Tint. I tried every colour on my hand and I asked the sales assistant if they had anything 'darker'. I actually meant tints that were more 'pigmented' but she didn't really understand what I meant.
In the end, I was tossing up between the Pomegranate Water Jelly Tint and the Kiss Lover Live Tint in Red. I asked the sales assistant a lot of questions, and she said the red looked nicer on me and she advised me to choose according to texture. I liked both of them, but I decided to pick up the Kiss Lover Live Tint.
Cost: $8.99 (original price $13.99)
Consistency: Watery
Pigmentation: 3.5/ 5
Moisturising: 3/5
Colour: 4/5
Scent: 5/5
Taste: 4.5/5
All in all, I do like this tint. It smells like cherries (or cough medicine) but I like that type of scent! Also, if you accidentally lick your lips, it has a slightly sweet taste unlike the other Tony Tint which is very, very, bitter.
The tint itself can be a little drying on your lips and flake off quite quickly. It also has a tendency to bleed into the lines on your lips. For some reason, the colour sticks well on my bottom lip, but not so well on my top lip.
The lasting power is average. It can stay on for about an hour or two without eating or drinking. It is best to put on some balm (like Lucas' Papaw), apply the tint, lip concealer, and then gloss for the gradient lips look. Or you can just dot the tint on your lips for the 'I-just-sucked-a-popsicle' look.
I'd still like to pick up the full size of the Etude House Fresh Cherry tint in red, but I guess I don't need so many tints in the same colour at once!
TL;DR
A good tint to add to the collection.
I reviewed Kiss Lover Live Tint #2 Orange here:)
